One Afternoon By The Koi Pond

Medium: Acrylic & Metallic Spray Paint on Canvas

Dimensions: 183 x 30.5 x 4.5 cm (H x W x D excluding outer frame)

Year: 2022

___

Style: Abstract expressionism - An abstract rendition of 100 Koi fish under the golden afternoon sunlight.

Significance: In Japan, Koi fish are a symbol of luck, prosperity, and good fortune, and also of perseverance in the face of adversity. Ornamental koi are symbolic of Japanese culture and are closely associated with the country's national identity. In Chinese culture, the Koi represents fame, family harmony, and wealth.

Dominant Colors: Red, fuchsia pink, crimson, orange, white, black, gold

Orientation: True to the exhibit and collection title: Re Orient, this tall and narrow oriental-style painting has two display orientations. It can be mounted vertically or horizontally, depending on where it is best suited. In the horizontal position, it is well-suited as a headboard piece for a bedroom, or focal piece in the living or dining room. If space is an issue, it can be mounted vertically in narrower spots and corner walls. Lastly, it makes a wonderful piece in an office to help bring in luck.

Outer Framing: Yes - black with gold trim

Ready To Hang: Yes

Stretcher Material: Wood, plywood

Lighting requirement: 1 - 2 spot lights - I recommend using up to 2 spot lights to really make this piece come alive, especially in the horizontal orientation.

Certificate of Authenticity: Yes

___

This is an original, one-off, hand-painted and signed work of art from my studio. It is part of my on-going series titled: Re Orient, which first publicly exhibited on the 14th of January 2023, through the 1335 Mabini Gallery in Manila, Philippines.

The Re Orient series showcases my retake on oriental east Asian-style Art, expressed in abstract form. It takes inspiration from a variety of things such as traditional oriental landscape art, lucky and auspicious Feng Shui colors, Koi fish, Yin & Yang, and mother nature.
